PITTA DOSHA: 5 NATURAL REMEDIES TO GET RID OF EXCESSIVE PITTA FROM THE BODY

What’s a Dosha?

According to Ayurveda, the five natural elements (cosmos, air, fire, water, and earth) are present in your mind and body, too—in form of the doshas: Vata (cosmos, air), Pitta (fire, water), and Kapha (water, earth). These essential energies control the transformation and metabolism in the body.

What is Pitta Dosha?

According to Ayurveda, Pitta dosha is associated with fire (Agni) and water. Pitta dosha, the heat energy in the body, is invisible. The common translation of pitta is “that which digests things”. Excess buildup of pitta dosha in body causing you discomfort and stomach related problems. Summer season is said to be the season of pitta for its sunny, hot days. Pitta has the characteristics of being hot, oily, sharp, liquid, mobile and light.

 WHAT CAUSE PITTA DOSHA?

The major factors that aggravate pitta dosha include:

  • Eating pitta aggravating foods (pungent, sour, salty, very spicy, deep-fried, processed, red meat)
  • Consuming caffeine (coffee), black tea, nicotine (smoking), alcohol
  • Prolonged exposure to the sun
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Heartburn, acid reflux, peptic ulcers

 Do you often get pimples every now and then? Are you suffering from premature grey hair? Do you suffer from excessive hair fall? Do you have acidity problems?  If some of these things sound familiar, you might have a Pitta dosha imbalance—or, you might be a lighted, passionate Pitta dosha mind-body type.

NATURAL REMEDIES FOR PITTA DOSHA

1# HYDROTHERAPY

  1. Take a bucket half full of water.
  2. Add some ice cubes to make it cool
  3. Add 1 tablespoon of rose water in it.
  4. Dip your feet in it for 10-15 minutes.

Cool foot bath instantly cools the whole body because the veins in our body all the way down to our feet are connected. So, it stimulates the blood flow, causes the veins to constrict and removes the toxins from the blood. It also calms our mind as well. For better results do it before sleep.

2# RICE WATER

Also called “Tandulodaka” in Ayurveda.  It is rich in B Vitamins and very effective for ulcers, acne, grey hair, hair fall, acidity, diarrhea, bleeding, urine pain and blemishes. Rice water is an instant body cooler, as mentioned in Ayurveda. For this remedy-

1. Take 10gram of rice and roughly pound it to make it granular.

2. Put it in a mud pot, you can also use  glassware if you don’t have mud pot.

3. Add around 60ml of water in it.

4. Cover it for 2-6 hours.

5. After 2-6 hours filter the rice water in a glass and drink it.

Do not put it in refrigerator. Have it an empty stomach, 30 minutes before meals.

For best results use unpolished semi brown rice.

3# SANDALWOOD PASTE

Sandalwood or chandan with its miraculous cooling properties has been used in ancient India to heal even bruises and scars.

1. Take one tablespoon of chandan powder.

2. Mix it with 1 tablespoon of rose water and make a paste.

3. Apply the paste on your forehead, as a result your body and mind gets calm instantly. It also enhances concentration power.

4# SHEETALI BREATH

Sheetalibreath, also known as Cooling Breath, is a yogic technique that very effectively cools the body, the mind, and the emotions. For this practice

1. Sit comfortably with back straight.

2. Keep both your hands on the knees.

3. Bring your tongue out, fold it on the sides like a tube.

4. Take a long deep inhalation through the tongue.

5. After inhalation, close your mouth and exhale with both the nostrils.

6. Repeat this for 8-10 times.

5# Food

Food is medicine, so choose the foods that cool down the body.

FOODS TO AVOID

Avoid the foods that are very salty, spicy and sour like chillis, spices, eggs, meat and packaged foods.

Add sweet and bitter foods in your diet. Use shakkar and mishri instead of chemically made sugar. Drink more water and avoid drinking ice water. Also eat foods with high water content like watermelon, cucumber, and coconut water.
